I hope you’ve started reading A Long Way Gone. To support this campus-wide program, the website for the UB Reads program has been launched! On the website you will find many resources related to this year’s book, including a schedule of events dealing with topics related to the book, links to more information about Sierra Leone and child soldiers, and information about the UB Reads Essay Contest where you can earn Campus Cash!

It was great to meet you all. Here’s looking forward to a productive and enjoyable first semester here at UB.
A few quick reminders:
- Anyone interested in going to the National Chicken Wing Festival on Sunday, please contact Jenn.
- I’ll send out your blog login information by email this week. Please test it out and make sure you can login successfully! Then go ahead and start blogging.
- If you haven’t picked up your student planner, please do so before our next class on 9/10/07. You can get your planner in the New Student Programs Office, 112 Student Union.
- Consider attending a Life and Learning Workshop or a Student Advising Services Workshop. The topics are very relevant to first year students and will help you get started on the right foot in your university career. Take advantage of these free programs!
- Start thinking about your campus event papers. Attending events is a super way to meet people and find out more about UB. Plus, you can get an assignment or two out of the way early!
- Visit the September Welcome website to find out what’s happening at UB this month to kick off the new academic year!
- And, remember, our next class in on 9/10. Meet in front of the Student Union.
Enjoy your first couple of weeks at UB. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything!
